Does an NDIS Plan Manager Cost You Anything? How Plan Management Is Funded

Oct.09.2026

What you need to know

  • Plan management is funded separately by the NDIS, written into your plan as its own line of funding under the Choice and Control category.
  • The monthly fee is $104.45, and it’s claimed from that dedicated funding, so there are no costs to you.
  • Adding a plan manager leaves your core, capacity building, capital, and recurring budgets at exactly the same amount.
  • You can ask for plan management at any point in your plan without a full reassessment, and you can change your mind later.

If you’re weighing up whether to use a plan manager, you may be wondering, does an NDIS plan manager cost me money? When you’re already working out whether your current budget will stretch to the end of the funding period, the thought of another fee landing on top is the last thing you need.

An NDIS plan manager costs you nothing. The NDIS pays for plan management separately, through funding written into your plan that can only be spent on that one purpose. All of your other budgets stay exactly as they are.

That’s the short version, and understanding how it works makes it easier to ask for. This article walks through where the funding comes from, what the monthly fee is, how to ask for plan management in your plan, and what a plan manager does with it.

Does an NDIS plan manager cost money?

Plan management does not cost you as an NDIS participant. When your plan is plan-managed, the NDIA writes a separate line of funding into it to cover the cost, and your plan manager claims their monthly fee straight from that funding. You never receive a bill, and the supports you rely on are left untouched.

The funding sits in your capacity building supports budget, under the support category called Choice and Control. Older plans and some guides still use the previous name, Improved Life Choices, so if you spot that on your paperwork, it’s the same thing. The NDIA describes this funding as separate to your other NDIS supports, available only to pay a plan manager.

What a stated support means for your budget

Plan management funding is what the NDIA calls a stated support, which is another way of saying, the money has one purpose and can’t be used for anything else.

That protection runs in both directions, and it’s a useful thing to understand. Your plan manager can only ever claim their fee from this one category, and none of your therapy, equipment, or support worker funding can be pulled into it either.

How much is the plan management fee?

The NDIS Pricing Schedule that took effect on 1 July 2026 sets the monthly plan management fee at $104.45. The same rate applies wherever you live in Australia, including remote and very remote areas, and it hasn’t changed recently.

There’s nothing to pay when you start, either. The old establishment fee of $232.35 was removed on 1 July 2025 and hasn’t come back since.

To help understand what a plan manager is paid to do, it can help to compare what having your NDIS plan managed looks like versus the other management options – self managed and agency managed.

How your funding is managed Who handles the financial admin What it costs you Providers you can use
Self-managed You do Nothing in fees, though it costs you time Registered and unregistered (for most services)
Plan-managed A registered plan manager Nothing. The NDIS funds it separately Registered and unregistered (for most services)
NDIA-managed The NDIA Nothing  Registered only

Whichever option you choose, the cost to you is the same. The differences show up in how much admin lands on your plate and how freely you can choose your providers. To learn more about what a plan manager does this guide to what NDIS plan management is covers the day-to-day.

Does plan management reduce your other budgets?

A person uses a calculator, tablet, and printed charts to track an NDIS budget and manage funding.

When people ask, “Does an NDIS plan manager cost money?”, the worry sitting underneath the question is usually about the other budgets. Plan management funding is added to your plan, not carved out of it.

Your core, capacity building, capital, and recurring supports all stay at the same amount they were before. If your plan has $40,000 in core supports, it still has $40,000 in core supports once a plan manager is added, and every hour of support you’re budgeted for is still sitting there. Having your NDIS funding by a plan manager does not have any impact on your other NDIS budget categories.

How to ask for plan management in your plan

This is one thing you’ll need to ask for, and it’s usually a short and straightforward conversation. How you go about it depends on where you are in your plan.

At your planning meeting or plan reassessment

Let your planner, early childhood partner, or local area coordinator know that you’d like to use a plan manager, and they’ll include the funding for you. Where a plan is plan-managed, the NDIA always includes plan management fees in it, so this isn’t something you’ll need to prove you need.

If you already have a plan

Your next reassessment might be months away, and there’s no need to sit and wait for it. Get in touch with your ‘my NDIS contact’ or call the NDIA on 1800 800 110 and ask to have plan management added.

The NDIA usually treats this as a plan variation, which spares you a full reassessment along with the reports and assessments that come with one. You’re also free to ask to change how your plan is managed as often as your circumstances need you to.

Once the funding is in your plan, the rest moves along fairly quickly:

  • Choose a plan manager, checking they’re a registered NDIS provider and asking how quickly they pay invoices.
  • Set up a service agreement, which covers what they’ll do for you and the notice period if you ever decide to leave.
  • If you have a PACE plan you’ll need to endorse them as your plan manager because a plan manager can only claim for supports and pay invoices once they’re listed in the my NDIS portal.
  • Let your providers know they can send invoices to your plan manager, and your plan manager takes care of the claiming and paying from there.

What your plan management funding covers?

Plan management covers a fair bit more ground than paying bills, and knowing the full scope makes it much easier to compare providers properly.

A plan manager funded through your plan will:

  • Check and submit your claims, confirming each one matches your plan, your budget, and NDIS pricing limits before it goes through.
  • Pay your providers and follow up on anything that doesn’t go smoothly.
  • Help you manage your NDIS budget, letting you know when spending is running ahead or behind in any category.
  • Send you monthly reports, showing what’s been spent and what’s left.
  • Hold your records and your full claim history in one place, ready if you ever need them.
  • Explain how your budget works in plain language, whenever you want to understand it better.

There are limits worth knowing about too, and most of them are about what stays in your hands:

  • Your providers remain entirely your choice, because a plan manager looks after the money side while the decisions stay with you.
  • Your budget is still yours to keep an eye on, and the NDIA is clear that avoiding overspending remains your responsibility, however a plan manager can help to alert you to over or under spending.
  • Support coordination is a separate service: plan management keeps your funding on track, while support coordination helps you find providers and get connected. Plenty of people are funded for both.

Changing your mind later

Choosing a plan manager isn’t a decision you’re locked into, which takes some of the pressure off making it in the first place.

You can move to a different plan manager whenever you like, as often as you like, and you can also shift between self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed at any point in your plan.

The one thing worth doing before you sign a service agreement is checking the notice period, because a plan manager worth choosing will make leaving as easy as joining.

How MyIntegra handles it[SD4] [JP5]

A support worker holds a smartphone to the ear of a smiling man in a wheelchair during an NDIS support visit

MyIntegra, along with every other NDIS Plan Management provider, are paid the same monthly fee of $104.45. This means when choosing a plan manager it is really worth comparing the service they offer.

For most of the participants and families we work with, the difference shows up in small, ordinary ways: a support worker who never has to ask when they’ll be paid, a therapy appointment booked without first checking three budget lines, and an evening that belongs to you rather than to a pile of receipts.

Your providers are paid quickly

We aim to review, validate, and submit invoices to the NDIA within one business day; once the NDIA approves and releases funds, we make payment the following business day.

When providers are paid reliably, your supports keep running without interruption, and you’re spared the uncomfortable job of explaining to a support worker why their invoice hasn’t come through yet.

You can see your plan whenever you want

Our portal is open 24 hours a day, so a question that surfaces at 11 pm can be answered at 11 pm. You can view invoices, see exactly where your NDIS budget is up to, and manage approvals in whatever time you have. And when you’d rather talk something through with a person, our team is available 9 am to 8 pm AET, Monday to Friday.

Every choice you had before, stays yours

You still choose your providers, registered or unregistered, and you still decide how approvals work and how closely you want to follow the day-to-day. We take on the claiming and the paperwork, and your choice and control stay exactly where they were.

Your information is looked after with the same care as your funding. MyIntegra is ISO 27001 accredited for information security and a registered NDIS provider, and if you’d like to see the mechanics step by step, how we work as your plan manager sets them out. There’s also more on our plan management service if you’re still comparing options.

Frequently asked questions

Does an NDIS plan manager cost money?

Not to you, no. The NDIS funds plan management separately from your other supports, and the monthly fee is claimed from that dedicated funding. Your other funding is not affected by having a plan manager.

How much does an NDIS plan manager cost in 2026?

The monthly fee is $104.45 under the NDIS Pricing Schedule that took effect on 1 July 2026. That rate applies right across Australia, and there’s no set-up fee. Your plan manager claims it from the separate funding in your plan.

Will using a plan manager reduce my other NDIS funding?

No. Plan management funding is added to your plan on top of everything else, so your other budgets stay at the same amount they were before.

Do I have to ask for plan management funding, or is it automatic?

You’ll need to ask. Let your planner or local area coordinator know that you’d like to use a plan manager and the funding will be included in your plan. If you already have a plan, call the NDIA on 1800 800 110 to have it added.

Can I switch plan managers without losing my funding?

Yes. The funding stays in your plan when you switch plan managers, and there’s no limit on how often you can change. Just check the notice period in your current service agreement before you move.
